jtech.jpgNick Talotta from jtech spoke with all academy classes describing the opportunities offered by his college. He focused on goals and financial opportunities to students. Students completed a personality inventory to help project the job/career choice they would be most successful.

Academy students attended SHORE Symposium in New Smyrna Beach. Scientist discussed measures to protect the Indian River Lagoon.

On September 27th, New Smyrna beach 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students attended the Florida FFA Chapter Officer Leadership Training in Haines City, FL. Students worked with other middle and high school students around the state to develop chapter plans for the 2017 and 2018 school year.

All 9th grade foundation students worked with the University of Florida IFAS and Volusia County Farm Bureau to grow Petunias and develope a marketing plan. Students started the plants from plugs and maintained the plants for a total of 7 weeks. On September 27th, students attended the Volusia County Farmers Market to utilize their marketing strategy and sell their plants. Students were broken down into 3 groups per class and competed against one another for overall lab.jpg
12th grade students are given the opportunity to palpate cows to check for pregnancy and participate in an artificial insemenation procedural wrap lab.jpgStudents work in groups of 3 to practice using vet wrap. Juniors and Seniors wrap each others arm to determine adequate pressure. This is key to their work based learning in area veterinary offices.
